Does your child worry excessively?
Does your child try to avoid stressful situations?
StAR (Strategies for Anxiety Reduction) is a 12 week group program designed to teach children ages 8-12 skills to cope with stress and anxiety.
StAR teaches children how to…
Identify changes in their bodies that signal anxious feelings
Recognize “what-if” thoughts that lead to anxiety
Generate coping thoughts by evaluating situations in a matter-of-fact way
Relax their bodies in stressful situations
Solve problems that create anxiety
Overcome fears gradually; one step at a time
StAR emphasizes active learning and seeks to provide a supportive and fun environment for all participants. Parents take part in two sessions and receive written tips on helping their children manage stress and anxiety.
StAR is based on a research-supported treatment protocol and is led by Dr. Miles Gilliom, an expert in helping children deal with anxiety.
